“You can’t inspect quality INTO your product – you must change your processes to build the quality in.”

proven on-the-floor leadership. Each of our Champions, Green Belts and
Black Belts have passed typical classroom requirements and they have led Six
Sigma projects to successful conclusion:

Just as we integrate Six Sigma with operations, our approach to Six Sigma
integrates the usual statistical tools with process management and structured,
logical problem solving. After beginning mid-2004, we have completed an assortment
of hundreds of projects focused on improving our quality and speed as
well as making us more cost competitive and a better place for our associates to work.
5-S: The complete tool set for manufacturing efficiency optimization
Viasystems has integrated the Japanese principle of 5-S
with our Six Sigma program to provide the complete tool
set for manufacturing efficiency optimization. 5-S is
comprised of the activities below, which collectively
translate to an orderly workplace removing the waste (muda)
associated with clutter and disorganization:
- Sort (Seiri) - Separate
the necessary things from the unnecessary and discard
the unnecessary
- Set in Order (Seiton) - Neatly
arrange and identify things for ease of use
- Shine (Seiso) - To always
clean up; to maintain tidiness and cleanliness in your
workplace
- Standardize (Shitsuke) - To
have workers make a habit of always conforming to rules
- Sustain (Seiketsu) - To
constantly maintain the 4S above
